OSSU Blog 2 - Update from Feb 1, 2026 until May 1, 2026
It’s been about 3 months since my last blog update. I will share what I’ve done these last three months, and what my plan is for the next few months.
What I’ve Done
- Update The Nostalgia Machine to have years 2016 - 2025. My PR on GitHub
- Continued with Insane Productivity
- Completed a writing course specialization (4 course series) from University of Michigan
- Completed a speaking course specialization (4 course series) also from U of Mich.
- Set up domain name for this blog website
- Research how to add page views for this blog website (Have an idea how I would do it, but I decided it's not worth the effort)
- Start recording video walkthroughs of Problem Sets 1-5 from Intro to CS and Programming using Python
- Completed 1a and 1b, then decided that it might not be worth the effort to continue this. Creating these videos turned out to be a time sink. It would be valuable to others in the OSSU community for me to upload these video walkthroughs, but that doesn’t align with my ultimate goals. One of my ultimate goals is to become a great software engineer, not to become an instructor. However, I am taking advantage of the protege effect as a way for me to increase my knowledge and understanding. I will continue attempting to teach the topics that I’m learning, in order to learn the concepts more deeply myself. But I will teach to an invisible person or to my rubber ducky. I’m still kind of debating whether or not I should record these problem set walkthroughs, so I might change my mind later. However, I have other more important things that I want to accomplish. But I’m continually weighing what’s most important. We’ll see.
-
There are few shortcuts to mastery, but the protege effect appears to be one of the most effective ways of accelerating our knowledge and understanding.
- (I’m sorry OSSU beginners ! To make it up to you, I’ll try to update my problem set blog posts from the Intro to CS using Python category here on my website to include the process I used to solve each problem)
- Created Discord backups of a few servers
- Wrote a review of Systematic Program Design course. Waited awhile to write it because I wanted to complete the writing course first and use the knowledge that I learned there to help me write this review
- Made progress on reading the Bible
- Took notes on SPD’s first half modules along with my thoughts
- Small updates to this website and my latinxnostalgia music website
- Transcribed ~1,600 videos from a video archive that I have containing medical information using OpenAI’s whisper
So that’s what I did the past few months. I think it was productive. But it's probably nothing compared to some ultralearners. I'm looking to push the limits my next time around.
Now, this is not really OSSU progress, but I decided to put it under OSSU category on my blog because for what’s next I do plan on continuing OSSU.
What’s Next
Next up is to continue OSSU. The next round of courses I plan on taking are CS50x, Class-based Program Design, and Math for CS (I only completed unit 1 last time I worked on OSSU).
But before continuing OSSU, I want to invest some time into learning how to learn. There’s this book called Ultralearning: The Essential Guide To Mastering Hard Skills And Future-Proofing Your Career. I want to read it, take notes, and blog about it. I also have a bunch of bookmarks for this topic that I want to go through one by one, taking notes and blogging about it as well.
I already have knowledge on how to learn that I’ve built up over the years and reviewed some of it during the writing and speaking courses. But I want to go deeper and have the best, up-to-date learning tools and mental models in place before continuing my learning journey. I’ll become a stronger learner, increasing my chances of making the important things stick.
Immediately next: learning how to learn.
Then: continue OSSU.
Then: Take a break to reflect, write next OSSU blog, and think about what to do next.
